How to get to Erasmus University

Travelling by plane

When arriving at Schiphol Airport (Amsterdam): take the train to Rotterdam CS (CS = Central Station). This trip from Amsterdam to Rotterdam takes about 50 minutes. A train ticket, as well as a tram/bus/metro card, can be purchased at the Schiphol train station. At Rotterdam CS you walk to the main entrance of the station and take the relevant tram, bus or metro to:

Erasmus MC (only Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences)

  • Tram: number 8 in the direction of Spangen, stop Euromast.
  • Metro: get off at Beurs and walk to the Calandlijn (you stay underground). Then take the metro westward (direction Schiedam), stop Dijkzigt.

Woudestein campus
(all other Faculties and Schools)

  • Tram: numbers 21 in the direction of De Esch, stop Woudestein, direction and stop Burgemeester Oudlaan.
  • Metro: get off at Beurs and walk to the Calandlijn (you stay underground). Then take the metro eastward (direction Capelsebrug, Ommoord or Nesselande), stop Kralingse Zoom. From here it is a 10 minute walk to the university.
  • Please note: from January until November 2012 tram 7 will no longer go to its terminus at Burg.Oudlaan!

Travelling by train or by bus

Trains and buses will take you to the Rotterdam Central Station. From there, see the description above.

Travelling by car

Erasmus MC
Erasmus MC is difficult to reach by car, and once you have reached it, it is difficult (and expensive) to find a parking place! Therefore, we advise to leave your car outside the centre of Rotterdam, e.g. at the metro station Kralingse Zoom. You will get there by following the route to the Woudestein campus (see below). At the metro station, take the metro in the direction of Schiedam or Spijkenisse and get off at Dijkzigt.

Woudestein campus
The Woudestein campus is situated near the Van Brienenoordbrug ('brug' = bridge). The Van Brienenoordbrug is crossed by the A16 motorway. This is where you have to get off the A16.
If you come from the south (A16, direction Breda and Antwerp): keep following the signs Den Haag until you see the signs Capelle a/d IJssel and Rotterdam Centrum. Keep following the direction Rotterdam Centrum and you will see the direction to the university.
If you come from the north (A13): keep following the direction Dordrecht/A16 until you see the sign Capelle a/d IJssel and Rotterdam Centrum. Keep following the direction Rotterdam Centrum and automatically you will see the direction of the university.
If you come from the east (A12/A20): same route as coming from the north (Dordrecht/A16 and Rotterdam Centrum).
