University Library pass
Even once you’ve graduated you can still use the University Library (UB). As a member of an Erasmus University Rotterdam alumni association you receive a discount on the library pass. Instead of € 30 you pay € 15 per year. You can apply for the library pass at the Alumni & Corporate Relations Office. You can also use the reading rooms, including the mediatheque/electronic reading room, and avail yourself of the professional support of the library staff. Use of the virtual reception desk via the UB website is included. You can supplement membership with an IBL account (not free of charge) which enables you to apply for books and magazine articles yourself through the Netherlands Central Catalogue, Online Contents and PiCarta. Application procedure
The University Library pass can be applied for by sending an email to Erasmus Alumni Office giving your surname, initials, address, date of birth and your former student number. Based on personal information provided by the staff of the Alumni Office, the UL makes a library pass for you and send you a message when the pass is ready. After payment (IDEAL), you can collect your pass at the information desk of the library. For applying for a library pass, you are in need of a permanent residence in the Netherlands.
The library pass does not offer access to the electronic resources of the library. The access to the electronic resources for 'others' is limited to consultation in the library during opening hours of the information desk on a temporary account.
Rotterdamsch Leeskabinet (RLK)
With your University Library pass you can become a member of the Rotterdamsch Leeskabinet for a small fee. This association library works together closely with the UB and is housed in the same building. The Leeskabinet has a collection of books for study and recreational reading. Besides novels and detectives the Leeskabinet has a large collection of general news magazines and history, art history, philosophy and theology works. The Leeskabinet organises lectures for its members on literature, history and culture about six times a year. You can apply for the supplementary pass at the Leeskabinet lending desk.
