Four teams Erasmus University participate at Universities Games

Four student teams from Erasmus University Rotterdam participate in the first edition of the European Universities Games. Coming Friday, July 13, 2012 these Games start in Córdoba. The biggest European sporting event for students comes to Rotterdam in 2014.

The first European Universities Games has about 2700 competitors, aged 18 to 25 years, who compete in ten sports. Fourteen Dutch student teams with 150 athletes travel to Córdoba. Four teams originate from the Erasmus University Rotterdam: futsal, table tennis, rugby and a women's beach volleyball duo (Esther van Berkel and Elena Neve). The EU Games in Córdoba last until Monday, July 23, 2012. The Dutch athletes are supported by Student Sports Netherlands with Head of Delegation Hester de Vries.

Rotterdam
The second edition of the European Universities Games takes place from 4 to 13 July 2014 in Rotterdam. A delegation of the organizing committee and the board of the 2nd European Universities Games Rotterdam 2014 foundation are in Córdoba to gain experience and to promote the event in Rotterdam.  They are supported by Pauline van der Meer Mohr (President of the Executive Board of Erasmus University) and two representatives of Rotterdam Topsport.

The EU Games in 2014 mark the end of the anniversary year of the EUR. The Erasmus University Rotterdam celebrates its centenary in the academic year 2013-2014. In November last year, the Games were awarded to Rotterdam by the European University Sports Association (EUSA).

Facilities
Erasmus University Rotterdam organizes the European Universities Games together with the municipality of Rotterdam, Rotterdam Topsport, Student Sports Netherlands and several other partners. In addition to the own sports facilities, other facilities in 2014  include the Topsport Centre Rotterdam and the Excelsior stadium. Other (target) locations include the new Willem-Alexander rowing course, Victoria Tennis Park and Golf Park. For musical performances in the student village on the new Campus Woudestein the organizing committee aims at cooperation with North Sea Jazz.
