1) Why is it not possible for me to setup a phone call to a destination outside the EUR?

Every phone is assigned a so called "traffic class" by the phone system operator. This determines which phonenumbers can be reached from a specific phone. The use of traffic classes is an instrument of cost control. For example, it is possible to limit a phone to internal destination phone numbers. As internal calls are free, such a phone can not generate any call charges.
The following traffic classes are used:

Class

Reach

2

internal

internal calls only

3

regional

region of rotterdam

4

national

netherland (including 06 mobile phone numbers)

5

europe

european countries (also 0800 and 0900 national information numbers)

6

international

worldwide

2) How can I change a phone's traffic class?

Requests to change the traffic class of a phone can be sent to: telecom@remove-this.nic.eur.nl.
Please state the phone extension number in the request. A request must be acknowledged by the phone subscriber. This is the person that invoices for the phone are sent to (budget holder).

3) When I try to call an international phonenumber, it failes. Why is that?

To call an international phonenumber one has to dial a leading 0 to make an offsite call. Next, dial the international access code "00" (two zero's), followed by the country code and the local subscriber number. Thus, calling an international phone number always starts with dialling 3 zero's. E.g. to call a Belgium subscriber, dial: 0 00 31 xxxxxxxx.
Furthermore your phone must be enabled to dial international numbers. The so called "traffic class" of your phone must be configured to either "Europe" or "International". Youre phone's reach will be pan European or worldwide respectively. To get information about your phones traffic class, send an e-mail to: Telecom@remove-this.nic.eur.nl. (see also "How can I change a phone's traffic class").

4) What must be arranged for telephony when a person moves to another location?

In case the user uses a modern IP-phone, then the phone itself must be moved to the new location. The phonenumber is associated with the device and as such the number moves along with the phone. Al that is needed to plug the phone into a data network port (EURnet wall outlet), optionally together with a pc. Contact your local ICT support department to inform them about the move. They can verify if enough data outlets are available.

In case the user uses a classical analog phone, one has to contact the telephony support department (via e-mail to Telecom@remove-this.nic.eur.nl). A standard electronic form (spreadsheet) must be filled in (download here).
The request must be sent at least 3 weeks before the date of the move. In most cases the telephony operations department will replace the analog phone by an IP-phone before the movement takes place. Then, the above scenario of moving a person with an IP-phone applies.

Please remember to update your address information in the Erasmus Addressbook (reachable at adresgids.eur.nl). Note that EUR staff members are responsible that their contactinformation is correct. The Erasmus Addressbook has a self service facility which you can use to update the information. You will need your ERNA username and password to login. The university organisation assumes that your contactinformation in The Erasmus Addressbook is always up to date.

This explanations assumes you begin with an idle phone (no active calls).

1. Call the first party and wait until the phone is answered.
2. Choose softkey (the four buttons below the display) Confrn; use the more button to scroll through the available softkeys. The first call will be put on hold (if not already done manually) and you will hear the dial tone.
