BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE SERVICE
The Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR) offers (registered) departments the opportunity to electronically publish information on the basis of the World Wide Web on the Internet via their own Website
WHAT DOES THEIR OWN WEBSITE ENTAIL?
Domain name:
The association will acquire its own internet domain name (fill in: association domain.nl). For practical purposes, the association domain will as a rule be a recognisable abbreviation of your association. The EUR will handle registration of your domain name. The selection of your association’s domain name is subject to the registrar’s regulations.

The association’s Website, a so-called virtual WWW server, can be accessed on the basis of an address in your own domain. This address has the following form: www.departmentsdomain.nl
MAILBOXES AND ALIASES
Mailbox and aliases: Your association will also acquire a mailbox. The address of the mailbox has the following form:
What-you-want@departmentsdomain.nl
A so-called Webmaster and Postmaster alias (which is also an email address) will also be created. Any email sent to these addresses is deposited in the mailbox mentioned above (What-you-want@departmentsdomain.nl). The email addresses of Webmaster and Postmaster have the following form:
- Webmaster@departmentsdomain.nl
- Postmaster@departmentsdomain.nl
ACCESS TO THE WEBSERVER
An individual maintenance account is made available to your association for maintenance of the virtual web server. This account can be used to post files on the Web server by means of FTP (File Transfer Protocol)
SPACE FOR WEBPAGES
The association will have a disc space of 50 Mbytes available on a WWW server for association pages. Additional disc space can be provided per 100 Mbyte upon request. (www.departmentsdomain.nl/analog/index.html/).
MAXIMUM WEB TRAFFIC PERMITTED
Traffic ensuing from consultation of your Web pages by third parties is limited to 5 Gbyte per month on the basis of fair use. We offer you insight into the quantity of traffic that is generated by your information via online statistics
SCRIPT OPTIONS
Within the form of this subscription, your association will have cgi script options (private cgi-bin directory) and Perl and PHP available upon request.
DATABASE SUPPORT
Upon your request, you will acquire a database on the basis of MySQL, which allows you to store data in a structured fashion and you will have the option to set up your website in a flexible, dynamic and organised manner, which will make maintenance of your website much simpler.
USER CONDITIONS
It is not permitted to make the space available or parts of it available to third parties (whether paid or not). The department itself is responsible and liable for the contents of the virtual web server. Furthermore, the Use policy for computer and network facilities of the Erasmus University Rotterdam will fully apply to this service.
THESE ARE THE COSTS
One-time fee: € 147.48 of which:
- € 79.41 domain registration
(these costs will be cancelled if you already have a domain) - € 68,07 for the set-up and configuration of the virtual WWW server
Subscription: € 218.07 per year of which:
- € 150.00 webserver subscription
- € 68,07 domain subscription
Additional disc space per 50 Mbyte : € 100.00 per year
HOW CAN MY DEPARTMENT ACQUIRE SUCH A WEBSITE?
Your department will fill in the orderform completely and send it in to the address below. This form will be accompanied by a letter on official stationary of the department and must be signed by the head of the department. The following document must be added to the order:
A completely filled in original safeguarding statement (thus not a copy), signed by the head of the department, matching the domain name application, Click here for the registrationcontract (dutch) (Right-click on the link and then "Save Target as")
As soon as the order has been received and has been found to be complete, it will be offered for registration to the registrar for the nl domain by the domain specified by the department. The DNS (Domain Name System) for the specified domain is also configured. After the domain is accepted, the WWW server will be set up and the email addresses created.
