Mentors and tutors
Many faculties provide first-year students with the opportunity to participate in the ‘mentor system’. Although this facility is organised differently per project and faculty (e.g. some faculties refer to it as the ‘tutor system’), the idea is more or less the same.
In the tutor system, students can direct questions regarding their study to a designated instructor. In the mentor system, students are teamed up with older students. The goal is to ensure that first year students become quickly acquainted with their new study environment.
The activities range from coming up with assignments, discussing course material, debating topics with instructors, drafting abstracts, preparing for exams, going out with your group or eating together. If you would like to know more about this, please refer to your course guide. You can of course also call your study advisor.
