Termination of enrolment


If during the academic year you decide to terminate your enrolment at Erasmus University Rotterdam, you must indicate this in Studielink. In principle, you will be disenrolled starting in the month following the month in which the disenrolment request has been submitted via Studielink.

Retroactive termination of enrolment is not possible. Contact Erasmus Student Service Centre immediately in case you are not able to submit a request for termination of enrolment via Studielink.

Preparation

Decide whether interim disenrolment is advisable and possible. Bear in mind that students who are disenrolled starting on 1 July or 1 August are not entitled to a reduction in tuition fees and that disenrolment is not an option if you are still taking part in EUR educational activities or are receiving support or supervision from EUR. Any marks earned during the disenrolment period will also be invalid. Remember your entitlement to student financial assistance and the public transport travel card (OV-kaart) will lapse once you are no longer enrolled.

Final steps

After you have submitted a request for termination of enrolment via Studielink, it will take four to eight weeks to fully process the disenrolment request and to refund all or part of the excess amount of tuition fees paid. Disenrolment will only take effect after EUR has granted your request, until which time you are expected to continue to pay your tuition fees. Your personal Studielink page indicates your date of disenrolment, and your status is changed to ‘disenrolled’. It is possible that one more payment will be collected, depending on when the status change is implemented and the tuition fees are normally collected. This is always corrected and the charges settled as quickly as possible.

Tuition fees refund

Disenrolment from EUR and Tuition Fees Receipt (Bewijs Betaald Collegegeld)

If you disenrol from EUR and continue your studies elsewhere using a Tuition Fees Receipt (Bewijs Betaald Collegegeld, BBC), you must submit the original BBC to EUR. You can submit the BBC in person at the Erasmus Student Service Centre (ESSC) or by post:

If at the same time you discontinue the other degree course for which the BBC was used, an official statement from the research university/university of applied sciences will suffice. This statement must also state the date of disenrolment.

If you disenrol from EUR and are enrolled at another institution using a BBC, the procedure will be as follows.

1. Disenrolment by request or following graduation from EUR
You submit a disenrolment request via Studielink and are disenrolled in accordance with the statutory regulations. As you have paid no tuition fees to EUR, you will not receive a refund. We will notify the institution that originally issued the BBC.

2. Disenrolment following graduation from another research university/university of applied sciences
If you have graduated from another research university/university of applied sciences and intend to use this as a reason for disenrolling from EUR, you must submit a disenrolment request to the relevant EUR programme via Studielink and you must submit proof of graduation, which states the date of graduation, issued by the other research university/university of applied sciences to:

We will ensure that the date of disenrolment will be the same as the date of disenrolment from the other research university/university of applied sciences. We will also inform this institution about your disenrolment.

Disenrolment and Binding Study Advice (Bindend Studieadvies)

If you disenrol before 1 February during your first year of study after receiving negative Provisional Study Advice (voorlopig studieadvies), you will not be issued Binding Study Advice (bindend studieadvies). In Studielink, indicate that negative Provisional Study Advice is the reason for disenrolment. Is this also the first year in which you received student financial assistance for higher education? If you discontinue your student financial assistance before 1 February, your performance grant will be converted into a gift. One condition is that you do not reapply for a student financial assistance during that same academic year.

Data will be automatically exchanged between the university and DUO. If you disenrol from EUR before the end of the term and do not continue your studies elsewhere, this will impact your entitlement to student financial assistance/public transport travel card (OV-kaart) from DUO. You yourself must notify DUO of your disenrolment ( http://www.ib-groep.nl/international_visitors/student_grant/student_grant.asp ).
