Change of purpose ('Wijziging Beperking')

Residence permits are issued for a particular purpose of stay. If something changes in your purpose of stay, your residence permit will have to be changed accordingly. This is also the case when you switch schools.

If you are coming to Erasmus University Rotterdam from another institution in the Netherlands, we will forward the application for a Change of purpose to the Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND) on your behalf, but you first have to obtain and complete the form.

The first step you need to take after you have been admitted to a programme at our university is to register in Studielink.

Next you need to pay the fee of €600 at the ESSC in the E-building. Upon payment of the fee you will receive the application form for the change of purpose procedure.

You can then complete several parts of the application and sign it (ignore the pages in Dutch!) and collect the following supporting documents

  1. A copy of your passport
  2. A copy of your current residence permit (both sides)
  3. A new passport picture
  4. Proof of sufficient financial means. You need to demonstrate you have at least €820 available for each month of study. The exact documents needed depend on your personal situation. Please contact us if you have doubts.
  5. Proof of enrolment at EUR (admission letter and Studielink registration or a statement of enrolment)
  6. Copy of the payment receipt

Your completed application can only be submitted during one of the contact hours of the immigration desk.

For questions and for submitting your application, please see our contact details.
