102nd Dies Natalis: Global Health
'Global health' was the theme of the 102nd Dies Natalis of Erasmus University Rotterdam on Monday 9 November 2015.
On the occasion of this anniversary of the university two eminent scholars received honorary doctorates awarded by the Doctorate Board: Professor Paul J. Gertler (University of California) because of his research contributions to the economic evaluation of the impact of health care finance, and Professor John P.A. Ioannidis (Stanford School of Medicine at Stanford University) because of the global orientation of his research and his broad and critical view on research in general.
Professors Eddy van Doorslaer, Arjun Bedi and Myriam Hunink were their honorary promotors.
This year, Professor Ernst Kuipers, Chairman of the Executive Board of Erasmus MC, delivered the dies lecture: ‘Bridging Ambitions’.
Rector magnificus professor Huibert Pols closes the ceremony with the first presentation of the Athena Award, for employees who make an extraordinary contribution to stimulate female talent. This first Athena Award was presented to professor Maria Grever.
