Prof. Bruins Prize
This award honours research Master’s students with outstanding academic achievements and research abilities. Candidates must either be EUR students or have completed their degrees during the 2008-2009 academic year. The prize is sponsored by the Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR) Association Trust Fund.
Award
Winners will receive €4500 to be used for study abroad.
Selection
The faculties will be in charge of internal selection, each nominating the best research Master’s student. A faculty procedure must be established for this purpose. A central jury will then select the best candidate from the seven nominees, based on academic achievement and research ability. The candidate’s name will then be submitted to the Executive Board.
Academic achievement will be assessed based on a student’s performance during the entire higher education career. For this purpose, a recent list of marks must be included with the submission. Research ability and experience will be determined on the basis of a curriculum vitae and a summary of the Bachelor’s thesis and/or, if possible, the Master’s thesis. The candidate must also include a letter explaining why he/she should be chosen for the prize and how the prize money would be spent. The €4500 is to be used for study abroad and must be spent on activities relating to the winner’s degree programme.
The submission must consist of the following:
- An explanation of the faculty selection procedure from the Dean
- A letter from the candidate explaining why he/she should be chosen for the prize and how the money will be spent
- Lists of marks for the student’s entire higher education career
- A curriculum vitae
- A summary of the Bachelor’s thesis and/or, if possible, the Master’s thesis
Presentation
The award will be presented during the opening of the academic year, in addition to the Education and Research Prize.
Central jury
The jury will be a central body consisting of two professors and two students, chaired by the Rector Magnificus. The chairman of the Trust Fund will play an advisory role.
Deadline
The Deans must submit their final faculty nominations to the Executive Board by no later than Thursday 7 May 2009.
