Dutch for students and employees

Even though most international employees probably teach in English, and work in an English-speaking environment, a basic knowledge of Dutch comes in very handy while they live in The Netherlands. The University Language and Training Centre (LTC) offers various Dutch language courses throughout the academic year allowing international employees and their partners to develop their Dutch skills.

The Dutch language courses are aimed at all four language skills (speaking, listening, reading and writing) and will improve your level of Dutch. In addition, we offer specific conversation classes to allow you to keep practising your spoken Dutch.

The regular Dutch evening courses have been especially developed for students but they are also open to EUR employees. These language courses are organised on the basis of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). Take a look at this table to compare CEF levels with other language proficiency tests.

The evening courses consist of 10 weekly classes of 2.5 hours each. The final examination is held after the course ends (see the schedule with exam dates below). In addition to class attendance, course participants are expected to spend approximately 3 hours on course preparation every week.

Intensive Dutch courses are offered by the LTC twice a year, in August and in January. An intensive course, covering two CEF levels, lasts for three weeks and is taught during the day.

The group size of our Dutch courses is small: a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 16 course participants.

Tailormade courses
If you cannot find the course or service your are looking for, please contact us. Apart from our courses we offer tailor made courses and workshops on an individual base, in small or large groups, intensive or once/twice a week, at Woudestein campus or in company. We offered an English course for Albron catering employees at EUR; Dutch courses for Phd students of ErasmusMC; Dutch skype lessons for an employee who was ill and at home. And we can give you feedback on your presentations in Dutch, English or Spanish...
Please contact us to discuss your questions.
