Intakes
Before beginning a language course, you will need to do an intake (language test) to determine your level. An intake consists of an oral and a written test. We offer intakes for the following languages: Chinese, Dutch, English and Spanish. If you need to do a language test for another language, please contact the Language & Training Centre (LTC) at ltc@eur.nl.
Who are the intakes for?
You do not need to take an intake if
- you wish to register for a beginner’s course at the LTC
- you are currently enrolled in a LTC course and you wish to register for a LTC course at the following level
- you have an official statement from the LTC (no older than one year) naming the appropriate starting level
An intake is compulsory in all other cases. The language trainer who does your intake will determine which course level (based on the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) you can register for. You will receive an intake result consisting of your current level and a course recommendation. You are not permitted to register for a course at a lower or higher level than your intake results indicate.
There is no obligation to enrol in a language course at the LTC after doing an intake. For example, you can also use your intake result to show your faculty that you have the required language level to go on an international exchange.
When are the intakes?
The Language & Training Centre organises four rounds of intakes every year. The dates for the academic year 2011-2012 are:

Please remember to make a reservation on the relevant timetable (these are only open during the registration periods).
How much does it cost?
An intake costs €50. If you register for a language course in the first possible training period after you do an intake, you will receive a full refund for the intake (€50).
