New website on Social Development at International Institute of Social Studies

www.IndSocDev.org

Social development is about putting people at the centre of development. There is growing recognition that social development is critical not only as a right, but also for broader development outcomes, including sustainable economic growth. However, data limitations have hindered international comparative research on weaknesses and strengths within countries, and on links between social development and other outcomes.

The Institute of Social Studies at the Erasmus University Rotterdam will be hosting the database Indices of Social Development (ISD), which will make this type of analyses possible. ISD will be a unique international research tool to enhance empirical understanding of the role of social and informal institutions, and of the factors that contribute to better social development outcomes.

This database will go on-line mid-March, at www.indsocdev.org, and we are marking this with an official launch. This will take place on 16 March, at the ISS in The Hague, between 16.00 and 18.00. Please register at info@remove-this.iss.nl if you would like to be present.

At the launch itself we will make further information available.
