Start Erasmus Graduate School Humanities, Social & Behavioural Sciences

Construction of a new Graduate School has begun at the Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR). The Erasmus Graduate School for Humanities, Social & Behavioural Sciences (EGS-HSBS) will host doctoral research and teaching for a number of faculties and institutes. These are the Faculty of Social Sciences (FSW in its Dutch acronym), the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS), Erasmus School of History, Communication and Culture (ESHCC) and the Faculty of Philosophy.

The EGS-HSBS will function as a platform for the participating faculties and institutes, for the content, output and quality of doctoral teaching and research. Director prof. dr. Victor Bekkers and drs. Jan Nagtzaam, Institute Manager, launched the development phase of the new Graduate School this month. One of the important aspirations of the EGS-HSBS is to encourage academic research witch is scientific excellent as well as societal relevant.
The variety of the disciplines of the doctoral students within the EGS-HSBS, each operating from their own scientific roots, enables the creation of inspiring and renewing research environments for those students.

Scientific talent
The Erasmus University Rotterdam is dedicated to the creation of Graduate Schools to recruit scientific talent, to train it and to retain it. The EUR wishes to be an attractive hub for such promising researchers. The launch of the new Graduate School grants the EUR the ability to break into new markets worldwide with talented doctoral students.

The Erasmus University Rotterdam currently hosts three Graduate Schools: Erasmus Research Institute of Management (ERIM), the Tinbergen Institute and Erasmus MC Graduate School.
