Monarchs and wars had a significant effect on the formation of states in the Early Modern Era

Robert von Friedeburg, Professor of Early Modern History at the Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication (ESHCC) of Erasmus University Rotterdam, and Academic Director of the Erasmus Center for Early Modern Studies, has been awarded a grant of 750 000 Euro from the Dutch Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO). With this, he will initiate the project "Reason of State". In this project, he will research the opinions held about State and Royal Authority in the seventeenth century. The project will start in mid-2011 and will take four years.

Prof. Dr. Peter Nikken appointed Professor Media Education

Prof. Dr. Peter Nikken appointed Professor Media Education as of 1st January 2011 of the Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication at the Erasmus University Rotterdam. This chair was established to improve the knowledge about the role of parents in their children’s use of media.

How offshoring strategies relate to firm performance

Managers need to be more aware of the possibilities but also of the possible performance effects of offshoring. In her PhD dissertation entitled The Relationship between Offshoring Strategies and Firm Performance, Marja Roza analyses the attributes of an offshoring strategy and their relationship with company performance. Her research shows that clear strategic goals, organisational choices and firm capabilities enable firms to execute and tailor an offshoring strategy to generate performance effects which supports overall firm strategy.

Faculty of History and Arts has a new name

The Faculty of History and Arts is being given a new name. From January 2011 the faculty will be renamed 'Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication' (ESHCC).

Inaugural lecture professor Heine

On January 6th, 2011, professor Heine will hold his inaugural lecture 'Organizational Science meets Law and Economics'. Heine is appointed as professor in Law and Economics in the Erasmus School of Law.
