Graduate Student Conference

No thinker has had so great an influence on intellectual life as French philosopher, historian and sociologist Michel Foucault. As we approach the twenty-fifth anniversary of his death this conference will re-examine the thoughts he developed in the so called ‘late’ period of his philosophical thought. Although his work on ethics, subjectivity and freedom continues to inspire scholars worldwide, their focus, however, is mostly on the empirical application of these concepts within various social sciences and political studies; a closer philosophical examination seems to be largely absent. The aim of this conference, then, is to return to Foucault and (re)assess the concepts he introduced in his later work.
