Operational management 2013
A top university requires first rate support
Erasmus University Rotterdam wants to compete in the academic Champions League. In many disciplines, Erasmus University is a match for the best universities in the world. But in a number of domains we have to make major strides forward if we are to reach the very top. To live up to our ambitions, the support services for our teaching and research have to be top-notch as well. Right now, we cannot supply that standard of service on all fronts. That’s why, since mid 2010 – under the direction of executive board member Bart Straatman – some serious thinking has been done by representatives of all parts of the organisation about how we can organize our support services more efficiently and in a smarter way. This has resulted in the creation of the Operational Management 2013 programme (BV2013).
Operational Management 2013 programme
Over the next few years, EUR will be focusing on increasing its power to attract (international) students, researchers and research funding. That’s aiming high, and it means that students, researchers and anyone involved in teaching must be able to focus optimally on his or her key tasks. In addition, it is clear that external pressures are increasing the need for cooperation and presenting a united front. A vital success factor for this is support services that are customer-oriented and create a ‘worry-free’ working environment.
The Operational Management 2013 programme (BV2013) is realizing improvements to the university’s operational management that will enable others to focus on their core business. On the one hand, this means that we will finally be making the major improvements for which many have been waiting for years. On the other, the programme will be looking into ways of organizing our support services more efficiently and in a smarter way, thus creating a strategic advantage. Many colleagues are involved in carrying out the programme.
BV2013 is part of a change in culture. A change in culture which is aimed at seeing each other as inevitable working partners, achieving better results together, and contributing to each other’s success while retaining our personal responsibilities. Closer and closer to fulfilling our ambitions to become a top university.
