Annual report Erasmus University Rotterdam

A record number of promotions, a lot more graduates, the start of construction of a vibrant campus center and a profile for top research. 2011 was a dynamic year for Erasmus University Rotterdam, in which it prepared for the future. The annual report 2011 is now available.

In 2011 more than 20,000 students were enrolled at Erasmus University Rotterdam. Last year 6,875 diplomas were issued to bachelor and master students, over 800 more than in 2010. The university has also invested heavily in coaching exchange students, non-Western ethnic minority students and students with disabilities. Also in 2011 the number of new Ph.D’s exceeded the level of 300 for the first time. A total of 314 candidates gained a degree.

Furthermore, the relationship with alumni is getting better. In 2011, 13,500 alumni have activated their profile in the Erasmus Alumni Database. This is an increase of 20 percent compared with the previous year. The new Erasmus Alumni Magazine is welcomed by this group. Financial names revenues from contract research increased from 129.9 million euros to 141.8 million euros.

Future
The Erasmus University Rotterdam is also preparing for the future. 'Nominal is normal’ started, an educational approach that should increase the academic achievement of students. Also the realization of the new Erasmus University College was getting a step closer and work was being done on the new bachelor Nano Biology (in collaboration with TU Delft).

To increase the societal impact of research is central in the policy of Erasmus University. Therefore, a profile for top research was made, which focuses on the four spearheads Health, Culture, Welfare and Governance. Furthermore, the universities of Leiden, Delft and the Erasmus have agreed on an intensive partnership that ultimately will result in a strategic alliance in order to strengthen the joint international position. 2011 was also the year of the start of the major campus renovation.

The Erasmus University Rotterdam succeeded in winning the bid for the European Universities Games. This major sporting event, which is expected to draw 4,000 students, will end the centenary in July 2014.
