Science and culture go hand in hand with shopping and sports. Every year, 25,000 Dutch students and 2,700 international students choose to study at our university in Rotterdam. They are all very much a part of Rotterdam society.

There are some 2000 restaurants with kitchens of all nationalities, from snack bars to restaurants with renowned top chefs. In terms of nightlife there is much to discover. 'Clubbing city of Holland': a title that Rotterdam has won by the explosive growth of the number of cafés, restaurants, clubs and discotheques over the last twenty years. You can spend the rest of your weekends in one of the many museums. In summer, Rotterdam organizes many festivals, such as Summer Carnival and the mulitcultural Dunya Festival with music from all over the world.

With the largest port in Europe, Rotterdam is one of the most important drivers of Dutch economy. While throughput operations and industry shift towards the sea, you will notice that the city centre is blossoming as never before. This heritage of trade has left its legacy – Rotterdam today is a multicultural city that is home to a host of multinational and local enterprises, like Unilever, Shell and Mittal Steel. More and more, Rotterdam develops a strong emphasis on the knowledge-intensive sectors of the economy, so it's an interesting place to study and work.

Rotterdam attracts a great deal of international interest as a city of architecture. A few square kilometers of the city centre offers a complete overview of what the twentieth century has produced in terms of modern architecture. The innovative and adventurous period after the war is expressed in structures such as the Erasmus Bridge and the Luxor Theatre. In Rotterdam, historical and modern buildings stand side a side.
