Master Philosophy

Master of Arts (MA)

Get reflexive: think about thinking, understand understanding. Engage with key insights, and philosophising around the world, e.g, on norms, language and meaning. Make your mark in a range of fields.

Grasp the social.  What is morality? How did it arise? How does it work? What about art? Authority? Cyberspace? The market? How do they make us, even as we make them? How do we make meaning? In what ways do norms shape our determinations, including about which ones to go by?

Get the best out of the analytical and speculative traditions. Hone your critical skills.  Produce whiz-bang analyses. Develop methods for rigorous research.  Present compelling arguments, and get a distance on the medium you're immersed in: language.

Erasmus is a top school in a dynamic and bustling city, Rotterdam.  The course is designed and taught by internationally renowned faculty. Get the best of the analytical and speculative traditions, and make them your own.

Career prospects

The employment situation is in constant change due to rapid social and economic developments. As a result philosophical abilities are being more and more appreciated: the ability to analyse problems and offer suggestions for solutions, communicating, proposing and carrying out ideas, offering insight into pros and cons, and understanding complex data.
As a philosophy graduate you have a wide knowledge of a range of subjects; your specialty is general knowledge. You can think clearly and critically and quickly discover patterns and structures in new and still obscure situations. For that reason you are able to take responsible
decisions. You can put problems in a historical dimension and in making choices you are aware of moral and social consequences. As a philosopher you don’t offer ready solutions but through your critical and creative engagement with a multitude of modern issues you are able to create new frameworks that allow you to contribute meaningfully to finding possible solutions.
