Rotterdamsch Leeskabinet UK   Borrowing   Requesting and borrowing

Requesting, borrowing and reserving

Almost all books kept by the Leeskabinet are for loan. Staff and students of Erasmus University as well as individual Leeskabinet members are permitted to borrow five books at a time. Extended membership ("household membership") entitles one to borrow twelve books at a time. The lending period is twenty-eight (28) calendar days.

Books printed before 1850 and other vulnerable or rare materials are not for loan. These can be consulted in the reading room.

1. Reserving and borrowing new acquisitions

New books will be displayed on the acquisitions display tables for a number of weeks (generally four to six weeks). You may peruse them at leisure and – if you should wish to read one or more titles – reserve them through the Circulation Desk.

2. Borrowing and reserving from the open collection

A selection of the much-requested materials is available from the open collection. You may take them directly from the shelves and borrow them through the Circulation Desk. These titles are recognizable in the computer catalogue by their request numbers. These numbers will start with one of the following prefixes: RLK Bae, RLK Det, RLK Ged, RLK U, or RLK X.

Books that are out on loan can be reserved via the Circulation Desk or via the computer catalogue and kept for you. If you reserve books via the computer catalogue, please select the wanted materials and click on reserveren next to the heading aanvraaginfo.

3. Borrowing and reserving from the closed stacks

Books that are kept in the closed stacks can be requested via the Circulation Desk. Alternatively, select the wanted materials in the computer catalogue and click on aanvragen next to the heading aanvraaginfo. Furthermore, you may reserve books from home (7 days per week/24 hours per day) using your Leeskabinet Library Card. Students and staff of Erasmus University may use the UL card. Then, please pick up the books in the Leeskabinet department later.

Requested books from the closed stacks are retrieved on the hour between 10.00 a.m and 4 p.m. from Mondays through Fridays. Thirty minutes later (i.e., on the half hour) they are available to you at the Leeskabinet Circulation Desk. See the schedule below.
