Rebecca Moody (1981) studied political science, and specifically the field of international relations at the University of Leiden. In June 2005 she obtained her Masters degree on the basis of her thesis on coalition formation strategies in the United Nations Security Council.
In September 2005 she has started her PhD project regarding the influence of Geographical Information Systems on policy design and agenda-setting at the department of Public Administration at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam. She specifically focuses on how forms of ICT such as Geographical Information Systems can help or hinder issues from reaching the political agenda and how processes of policy design might be altered by the use of Geographical Information Systems. Rebecca hopes to obtain the degree of PhD on the basis of this research in February 2010.
Furthermore, in 2008 she has cooperated in an NWO funded research on the influence of Web 2.0 technologies on processes of micro mobilization. In this project it was researched how, individuals, hoping to gain political attention for their issue, used Web 2.0 technologies to attain their goal. The project focuses on the relation between traditional and new media in these processes.
In January 2010 Rebecca started her post doc position at the Erasmus Studio. In her research she will focus on visual culture. New technologies for distributing but also creating visual images can have a profound impact on the way public policy is made. This impact, whether it is present, and if so, in which way, will be researched. Next to the new technologies also traditional technologies for creating and distributing visual images will be looked at. The aim of the research is to find how these technologies influence public policy making. The relation between government and citizens will be looked at but also the relation between experts and scholars among each other, as well as in relationship to the government.
