Prof.dr. Elbert Dijkgraaf Professor of Empirical Economics of the Public Sector
Elbert Dijkgraaf (1970) is appointed as professor per 1 juni 2009 at the Department of Economics, Erasmus School of Economics. His position is sponsored by the Vereniging Trustfonds. The chair is characterised by empirical analysis of the effects of policy choices by governments. Goal is to provide governments with recommendations to better warrant public goals. Three main themes are studied:
1. Differences in effects of policy between short and long term.
2. Increasing the scope of analysed policy effects with quality indicators.
3. Heterogeneity of policy effects and target groups.
Dijkgraaf studied economics at the EUR, where he also finished his PhD-thesis. He combines his professorship with an appointment as vice-director of SEOR.
Prof.dr. Giovanni Facchini has been appointed Professor of Macroeconomics
Giovanni Facchini has been appointed professor at the Erasmus School of Economics per 1 January 2009. Giovanni earned his Ph.D. in 2001 from Stanford University. His research focuses on international trade and international factor mobility and has been published/is forthcoming in journals such as the Review of Economics and Statistics, the Journal of the European Economic Association, the Journal of International Economics and the Journal of Public Economics.Before joining Erasmus University, he has been on the faculty at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign and at the University of Essex, and has also taught at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (China) and the Universidad de Sao Paolo (Brazil) among others. Giovanni is an affiliate of CEPR and CES-Ifo, a Faculty Affiliate at the Institute for Government and Public Affairs at the University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign and a member of the coordination committee of the Centro Studi Luca d'Agliano in Milan, where he directs research for a 2.7 million Euros RTN program on the Transnationality of Migrants (TOM).
Prof.dr. Bauke Visser has been appointed Professor of Organizational Economics
Bauke Visser has been appointed Professor at the Erasmus School of Economics per 1 February 2009. His position is sponsored by the Vereniging Trustfonds. His area of research is organizational economics, in particular the Economics of Decision-making Processes. He studied econometrics (and some philosophy) at the University of Groningen, and holds a PhD in economics from the European University Institute in Florence. After a period at Royal Dutch Shell, he joined the Erasmus School of Economics in 2000.
