BA-3 students: Information session for excellent students – Friday 2 March 2012
Tinbergen Institute (TI) and the Erasmus Research Institute of Management (ERIM) would like to invite you to an information session to learn more about our respective MPhil programs. Both graduate programs are geared towards ambitious and excellent students who wish to make a career in academic research.
Are you:
- one of the better students in your cohort;
- creative, inquisitive, hard-working and independent;
- interested in academic research?
If your answer to one of these questions is ‘yes’, then TI and/or ERIM might be the place for you!
The information session will take place on Friday March 2nd from 3PM - 5PM. In this session, the Directors of Graduate Studies at TI and ERIM will give a short talk. They will inform you about the educational program, the admission requirements and application procedure, and the job market perspectives. Tinbergen Institute (TI) is the graduate school and research institute of the economics departments of the Erasmus University Rotterdam, Universiteit van Amsterdam, and the VU University Amsterdam. TI is located in Amsterdam and Rotterdam.
TI offers a highly valued five-year graduate program to an international community of excellent students. The program consists of the MPhil. in Economics and Ph.D. thesis research. The MPhil. is a two-year, NVAO-accredited research master in economics, econometrics, and finance. It is taught by the best researchers of the three economics departments participating in the institute and internationally renowned guest lecturers. Admissions are selective and competitive. The MPhil. in Economics is suitable for students with bachelor and master degrees alike. For those students with an econometrics background, TI offers a specialized advanced-econometrics track. For those students with an interest and/or background in finance, TI offers a specialized finance track. The MPhil. is connected to three-year Ph.D. employment positions in the participating economics departments.

The Erasmus Research Institute of Management (ERIM) is a research school of the Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR). ERIM was founded in 1998 by two of the EUR’s schools; the Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM) and the Erasmus School of Economics (ESE). Throughout its activities, in research as well as teaching, ERIM has five distinct areas of research in management:

The ERIM Master of Philosophy in Business Research (ERIM Research Master) is specifically designed for academically talented and motivated students who would like to combine education in a specialisation area of their choice with the challenges of undertaking research in that field. With no more than 30 fellow students, the programme offers individual supervision, a highly personal approach and the opportunity to investigate your chosen subject in great depth. The amount and composition of the course work depends on the candidate’s specific educational background and individual profile. The entire programme is taught in English by some of the most distinguished management research academics in the world. It provides the perfect preparation for a PhD in either Management or Business (also at ERIM), or for a research position in the wider world of business.
