CyberSafe Yourself campaign launched

On May 31st 2010, a national campaign was launched entitled 'CyberSafe Yourself: Using computers and networks safely'. To increase awareness amongst employees, Erasmus University Rotterdam will bring this issue to their attention with poster campaigns and screensavers at the workstations.
Awareness of internet dangers
Many people are not aware of the security risks the internet can pose. The worldwide web usually makes things easy, allowing you to access all kinds of information, conduct bank transactions, arrange insurance, keep in touch with friends etc. This campaign will tries to warn internet users about the downside of this ease, in particular, the fact that your personal information can be accessed by people whose motives are sometimes less than pure. The issues highlighted in the 2010 campaign are phishing, social media, confidential information and mobile computing.
Special campaign on EUR website
Over the coming weeks, we will we will keep you informed through our campaign website which features information and tips. All major faculties and schools of Erasmus University Rotterdam participate in this campaign. In addition, we are cooperating with the SURFnet campaign (in Dutch only).
Government campaign
The importance of this issue is highlighted by the fact that privacy was recently discussed during a university council meeting, and featured in the weblog of university board chairwoman Pauline van der Meer Mohr (in Dutch only).
Of course, Internet security is also a matter of national importance. Therefore, on May 17th 2010, the Dutch government launched its own safe surfing campaign (in Dutch only).
