Basic Teaching Qualification
The Erasmus School of Economics attaches a great deal of importance to the quality of teaching in its study programmes. Therefore, all lecturers must have the necessary skills coupled with experience in teaching. This is why explicit qualification is required for the task of teaching. For that purpose, a decision was made that all newly employed assistant professors and associate professors are subject to meeting the basic qualifications for teaching.
Participation in the Basic Qualifications for Teaching course (or parts thereof) is not mandatory if:
1. The party concerned can show that he/she has teaching qualifications (acquired in the Erasmus University of Rotterdam (EUR) or in other universities that participate in the national regulation regarding Basic Qualifications for Teaching).
2. The party concerned can show via a track record that he/she meets the requirements in another manner (in other words, show that he/she has adequate experience in teaching and can provide evidence by means of positive teaching evaluations).
Based on the Qualifications for Teaching form, the P&O department will examine whether the party concerned meets the qualifications or whether further actions have to be undertaken. This form has to be filled in by the director of the department and added to the appointment documents. The director of the department and the party concerned will receive feedback if steps are still required for meeting the basic qualification (or parts thereof).
