Account Normalization 2 June 2011

In connection with the continuing integration of IT services on campus, the account names at the ESE will become identical to the ERNA account names effectively from 2 June.
At present, each ESE employee has an account name related to his/her own name. For instance, .A.B. van Detest’s account name is vdetest (NB: this is not his e-mail address) and e-mail address: vandetest@ese.eur.nl).
Furthermore, each EUR staff member also has an ERNA account. The associated account name is comprised of the employee number followed by three letters related to the employee’s name. For instance, A.B. van Detest’s employee number is 12345 and his ERNA account name is 12345avd. This ERNA account is used to access central information systems such as online databases, personnel info, Blackboard, Osiris, etc.
What happens on 2 June is that the ‘old’ ESE account name will be changed into an ERNA account name, and from that moment you login with that ‘new’ name for all university systems. Please note: the e-mail address will remain unchanged, and the password will not be changed automatically. To begin with, you still use the ‘old’ ESE password.
Important:
It is important that during this operation all accounts are inactive: no login sessions on workstations or servers, no e-mail sessions (not even from the webmail service, home computer, or smart phone) with the ESE mail service, no Calendar sessions, no ESE VPN connection. In short: you need to logout ultimately Wednesday evening 1 June, and you can login again from Friday morning 3 June.
For users of laptops with a full-support standard ESE installation we must recommend connecting the laptop to the ESE network ultimately the Wednesday before this procedure, possibly logging in, and logging off to free the user session and synchronize the user profile and offline files. You need to leave the laptop connected to the network, and running (i.e. not switched off). If it isn’t plugged into a ‘docking station’ you also need to make sure it’s connected to the 220V power adapter, and it is best to leave the screen/lid open. You can login again on Friday morning after the account normalization procedure.
In summary:
No activities of current ESE accounts during the operation on 2 June:
- No login sessions on the workstations
- No sessions (active or suspended) on the Calculation servers
- No e-mail sessions from home or via the webmail service
- No VPN connections
Advice for Laptops With Full-support ESE Installation:
- Before the account normalization: take your laptop to your office, plug into the ESE vlan
- Perform a complete synchronization of your home/my documents
- Log out and stay connected with The ESE vlan, do not turn off, do not close the lid
From Friday 3 June login with your ERNA id, but note that without further action this is will still be the same password as the ‘old’ ESE account. Afterwards you can only change the password by going to 'personal.idm.eur.nl' after which the new password will also be the one to use for the ESE network.
Please note that to login on the central information services you need to use the EUR-wide general ERNA account name (12345avd@eur.nl), but to login on the ESE computers or ESE e-mail (including ERNA webmail) you need to type the specific ERNA id (12345avd).
(Don’t forget to change the user name in your email client at home or in your smart phone.)
