Outlook

If you never used Outlook before (from home), Outlook starts automatically with the Account Setup wizard. If you've used Outlook before, you will have to add the new account using the "Mail" applet in the Windows Control Panel (in Dutch: configuratiescherm). You can find the Control Panel in the Windows "Start Menu". It is not possible to add an Exchange account while Outlook is running.

If your old ESE account is still present, it is recommended to remove this account, to avoid error messages in Outlook. Click the button "New" to create the new account. Fill out your name and (ESE) e-mail address and click next.

A message will appear to confirm if you allow the server to configure your e-mail server settings automatically. Only allow if the url is https://exchange.eur.nl/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml.

Next you will have to authenticate. Please provide your ERNA user name and password, and click "OK".

If succesfull, you'll see the Congratulations window. Please click "finish" to complete configuration.

Exchange server not discovered

In some situations, or with some internet providers, the Exchange server will not be discovered properly. You'll need to setup your account manually in these situations, by enabling the "manually configure server settings..." in the first screen.

In the next screen, select the option "Exchange Server", and click the "Next" button.

In the text box "Microsoft Exchange Server", type "exchange.eur.nl", and as "User Name", type your ESE e-mail address or your ERNA account name. When you click "Check Name", you'll get a login window where you'll have to provide your ERNA account name and password. After your name has been found in the directory, click "Next", and "Finish" in the last screen.

Outlook not responding

It may happen, when using Outlook from home to connect with Exchange server, that Outlook does respond very slowly or not at all. Especially people who configured Outlook on a laptop at ESE and then started using the laptop at home, reported this. When you're also experiencing these kind of connection problems, please check in Outlook in the menu Tools -> Account Settings (or the above mentioned Mail applet in the Windows Control Panel). Select your Microsoft Exchange account (name may be different if you added this account manually), and click the button "Change". In the next screen, click the button "More Settings", then click the tab "Connection" and subsequently the button "Exchange Proxy Settings".

In this "Microsoft Exchange Proxy Settings" window, the option "On slow networks..." should be checked.

IMAP Settings

It is strongly recommended that you use Outlook or Outlook Web App for accessing your e-mail or calendar from home. If you still want to use another e-mail client instead of using Outlook, or if you use a mobile device not capable of accessing Exchange server, it is possible to use IMAP to access your e-mail. These are the IMAP/SMTP settings:

Incoming (IMAP) mail server:
server name: imap.eur.nl, port 993  (SSL/TLS)

Outgoing (SMTP) mail server:
server name: smtp.eur.nl, port 587 (STARTTLS)
Outgoing server requires authentication
