Compensation
Compensation
You can compensate an insufficient grade for bachelor-1 and bachelor-2 courses in some cases. Below you will find the conditions for compensation.
Compensation clusters
Bachelor-1 and bachelor-2 courses are divided over compensation clusters. You can compensate one five per cluster. A five is a grade higher than or equal to 4.5 and lower than 5.5. Compensation will only count if valid results are obtained for all courses of the cluster. You cannot compensate a five if more courses of the same cluster are not passed yet.
You can find the compensation clusters in the course schedule of your bachelor's programme.
Calculating compensation
The average of a cluster should always be sufficient (5.5 or higher). In the calculation of the final grade for a cluster the results for the constituent courses count in accordance with the pertaining credits.
The average must be rounded off to one decimal place, with hundredths being rounded down; the average of a 5.9 and a 5.0 (5.45) makes a 5.4 for example.
Courses passed with the qualification 'fulfilled' do not fall within a cluster and cannot be used to calculate a final grade for a cluster. You should however finish these courses sufficiently in order to obtain a positive Binding Study Advise. This also applies to courses you are exempt from.
Registration of compensation
Compensation is not registrated in OSIRIS. Only if you request your bachelor's exam, compensation will be made officialy. The examination board will always take possible compensation into account when establishing the BSA, handling the admission to major seminars or to a master's programme.
Compensated grades will be registered on your official bachelor's grade list. This implies that insufficient, but compensated, grades will appear on your offical grade list.
