Timetable conflicts
The class and examination schedules are drawn up with the utmost care. The ESE guarantees that there are no conflicts within the academic year for a programme (for instance bachelor-1 Economics and Business Economics or bachelor-2 Econometrics and Operations Research).
However, because students sometimes take courses from several programmes or in several years of the same programme at the same time, conflicts may arise for individual students.
These conflicts can be reported to the Ideas and Complaints box of the ESE who will then try to solve the problem.
To prevent other students of the course (and lecturers) from being faced with schedule changes at the eleventh hour, conflicts have to be reported well before the start of the lecturing term.
Please note - no guarantees for reporting!
Reporting a conflict does not guarantee that it can in fact be solved. First of all the interests of all those involved will have to be assessed. For instance it would be undesirable to move a course for 800 students because of a single student’s conflict. The question is also whether there are rooms available to implement the desired change.
Please note - unwanted time is not a conflict!
The ESE holds the view that what an individual student may consider to be an unwanted time is not a conflict. For instance a tutorial that begins on Monday morning at 9 a.m. or a lecture held on the day that the student has a part-time job.
Regular lecturing hours for full-time programmes are Monday through Friday during the daytime (= 9 a.m. until 6 p.m., with a possible extension to 7 p.m. if need be).
Regular lecturing hours for part-time programmes are Monday through Friday evening (= 7 p.m. until 10 p.m.) and Friday during the daytime.
Examinations can also take place on evenings or Saturday mornings.
