Research Institutes

The School's research activities are facilitated by two research institutes accredited by the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts & Science (KNAW):

Tinbergen Institute (TI)

Tinbergen Institute is the graduate school and research institute in economics of the Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR), University of Amsterdam (UvA) and the VU University Amsterdam (VU). The field of the research of TI is economics, including business economics and econometrics. Not included is the field of business management. Researchers from these three Dutch universities (EUR, UvA and VU) have joined forces to develop economic research on the one hand. On the other hand the Tinbergen institute offers a highly valued graduate programme to a community of excellent students. TI offers two year MPhil programmes in economics and in finance that are part of a five-year PhD track. More information about the Graduate Programme of the Tinbergen Institute can be found at their website.

The Research Institute

The Research Institute stimulates fundamental and applied economic research within the four themes of the research programme, and brings together researchers to stimulate discussion on theories, methodologies and empirical results. Each research theme covers the whole spectrum of economic analysis from highly theoretical to purely empirical research. Joint research is stimulated through the coherence of the programme. Several research fellows participate in more than one research group. The four research programmes of the Tinbergen Institute are:

  • Institutions and Decision Analysis
  • Financial and International Markets
  • Labour, Region and the Environment
  • Econometrics

ERIM offers both a highly valued graduate programme to a community of excellent students as well as an outstanding support programme for a range of research-related activities. The focus of the ERIM MPhil is on the development of academic competencies and skills within a specific field of management. More information about the Graduate Programme of ERIM can be found at their website.

The PhD Programme of ERIM is an advanced four-year international programme designed to train future researchers in one of five key fields of management:
