| Lord Rodger of Earlsferry was one of the most outstanding members of the legal profession in the United Kingdom. He had an impressive career in the judiciary, but also at university. Until recently Lord Rodger was a member of the Supreme Court of the UK. Moreover, he was a renowned expert in Roman law and he published regularly in the field of Roman property law and tort law. On the recommendation of its School of Law, the Erasmus University has conferred a doctorate honoris causa on Lord Rodger for his extended knowledge and expertise and the combination of his excellence as a judge and as a scholar. He accepted this honour with pleasure. Unfortunately due to his untimely death on June 26, 2011, Lord Rodger could not personally receive this honour. The bulla promotionis will be granted to him posthumously and will be presented to his family on his behalf. |
