Panel 10: Special Panel of Colloquium ‘Professionals under Pressure’ Organizers: prof. dr. M. Noordegraaf en prof. dr. A.J. Steijn As in 2007 and 2008, a special session of the NIG colloquium ‘Professionals under pressure’ will be held at the NIG Annual Work Conference on Thursday 13th and Friday 14 th November 2009 at Leiden University. This session is open for both the members of the colloquium as well as other researchers or practitioners interested in this theme, that shortly can be described as: By bringing together scholars from diverse fields – varying from justice to social work –, with different orientations – managers, organisations, street level bureaucrats – and with different outlooks – values, roles, behaviour – the colloquium intends to investigate the dynamics around (de)professionalising of public organisations, with particular emphasis on roles, relations and interactions of both professional experts and managers. By linking research efforts that focus on parts of the research puzzle, a more elaborate theory driven and empirically grounded picture will be sketched. This picture will be an answer to a general question that follows from the research puzzle: How can professional relations and interactions between public managers and professional experts be understood and developed? Contributions can deal with a multitude of fields (education, health care, social work, housing, etcetera). We are actively stimulating possibilities to publish the results of research presented at sessions of the colloquium.
