Short Biography

Geske Dijkstra (1956) studied economics and sociology at the University of Groningen, where she also obtained her Phd in Economics in 1988. Currently she is associate professor in economics in the Programme of Public Administration. She combines research and teaching with carrying out studies and consultancies for organizations involved in development cooperation, such as the World Bank, the Swedish International Development Agency (Sida) and the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Her research interests evolve around issues of economic development, focusing in particular on aid effectiveness, political economy of aid, impact of economic liberalization, debt issues, and gender equality. She is the (co-)author or (co-)editor of eight books, and published extensively in international journals such as Development and Change, Feminist Economics, and World Development.
