Ineke Noomen (1979) is als promovenda verbonden aan de afdeling Sociologie aan de Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam (EUR) en de Amsterdamse School voor Sociaal Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek (ASSR). In 2004 studeerde zij cum laude af in de Kunst- en Cultuurwetenschappen aan de Faculteit Historische en Kunstwetenschappen aan de EUR. Van maart 2004 tot haar aanstelling als promovenda Sociologie in maart 2006, werkte zij aan deze faculteit als onderzoeksmedewerker voor het onderzoeksproject Cultural Classification Systems in Transition en deed zij onderzoek naar de informatie-uitwisseling in de Nederlandse en Vlaamse literaire wereld - beide onder leiding van Susanne Janssen.

Onder begeleiding van Dick Houtman en Stef Aupers werkt Ineke Noomen momenteel aan haar proefschrift over religie en spiritualiteit op het Internet, waarin zij haar interesses voor hedendaagse media, zingevingprocessen en de culturele aspecten van modernisering verenigt. De belangrijkste onderzoeksvraag is hoe de affiniteit van posttraditionele religies (new age, neopaganisme) met het World Wide Web kan worden begrepen, in vergelijking met de verhouding van traditionele religies (protestantisme, katholicisme) met het Web. Dit onderzoek heeft plaats binnen het project Cyberspace Salvations: Computer Technology, Simulation and Modern Gnosis, dat wordt gefinancierd door de Nederlandse Organisatie voor Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek (NWO) binnen het onderzoeksprogramma The Future of the Religious Past.

Naast haar onderzoekswerkzaamheden is Ineke Noomen als werkgroepdocent betrokken bij de vakken Cultuursociologie (Bachelor 1), Theorie in Onderzoek (Bachelor 3) en Sociologisch Theoriegebruik (Schakeljaar).

Ineke Noomen (1979) is a PhD Student at the department of Sociology at Erasmus University Rotterdam and the Amsterdam School for Social Science Research (ASSR). In 2004 she received her MA degree (cum laude) in Art and Culture Studies, at the Faculty of History and Arts at Erasmus University. From September 2004 until the start of her PhD project in March 2006, she worked at this faculty as a junior researcher on the research project Cultural Classification Systems in Transition and a research project on the information exchange in the literary world of The Netherlands and Flanders, both supervised by Susanne Janssen.

Under supervision of Dick Houtman and Stef Aupers, Ineke Noomen currently works on her dissertation about religion and spirituality on the Internet, in which she combines her interests in contemporary media, issues of meaning and cultural aspects of the process of modernization. The main question of her PhD project is how the affinity of post-traditional religions (new age, neo-paganism) with the World Wide Web can be understood as opposed to the relationship of traditional religions (Protestantism, Catholicism) with the Web. This project takes place in the research program Cyberspace Salvations: Computer Technology, Simulation and Modern Gnosis, which is funded by The Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO) in the programme The Future of the Religious Past.

Besides her research activities, Ineke Noomen teaches working classes in the courses Cultuursociologie (‘Sociology of Culture’, Bachelor 1), Theorie in Onderzoek (‘Theory in Action’, Bachelor 3) and Sociologisch Theoriegebruik (‘Theory in Action’, pre-Master year).
