Curriculum vitae
Ruut Veenhoven (1942) studied sociology. He is also accredited in social psychology and social-sexology. Currently he is professor of social conditions for human happiness at Erasmus University Rotterdam. He is director of the World Database of Happiness and editor of the Journal Of Happiness Studies.
Publications
Key publications are 'Conditions of happiness' (1984), 'Happy Life-expectancy' (1997) ‘Quality of life in individualistic society’ (1999) and ‘The four qualities of life (2000). Research
The main research subject is happiness in the sense of subjective enjoyment of life. Major questions are:
- What are the best measures of happiness?
- How much differ people in happiness?
- How do these differences come about?
- What are the consequences of enjoying life or not?
