Dr. Erik de Bom

Erik De Bom (1983, Antwerp – Belgium) is research fellow of the section Practical Philosophy.
He studied classics (MA) and political science (MA) at the Catholic University of Leuven. In 2009 he obtained a Ph.D. in the field of Neo-Latin literature with a dissertation on the political ideas of Justus Lipsius and their influence in the early modern Netherlands. On these subjects he has published a monograph, co-edited a volume in the international book series 'Brill's Studies in Intellectual History', and written several articles and contributions.

Since September 2011 Erik De Bom is associated as a research fellow of the Faculty of Philosophy of Erasmus University Rotterdam. He is working on a second Ph.D.-project, which is provisionally entitled 'A Theory of Justice for Europe', under the supervision of Ingrid Robeyns (Rotterdam) and Helder De Schutter (Leuven). The aim of the project is to devise a theory of justice, not on the domestic or global level, but on the level in between.

* the history of political thought
with special attention to the seventeenth century

* political theory
with special attention to the European Union, theories of justice, the problem of boundaries,     migration and     federalism
