Programme Description
The programme comprises two years of study in analytic philosophy, with most of the courses explicitly designed for the Research Master.
Curriculum
The curriculum consists of seven core philosophy of economics courses, plus three advanced general courses in philosophy that can be chosen from the fields of epistemology and philosophy of science, ethics, history of philosophy and philosophical anthropology. These courses bring the students’ background knowledge and competences in ‘general’ philosophy and in philosophy and economics up to the required level for further advanced research. The programme has a clear focus on training in analytic philosophy.
Students with a strong economics background can also take optional courses from the Economics Department. All classes are in the form of seminars where teachers engage in a direct exchange of ideas with students and give them immediate feedback on their class participation and written assignments. Students finish the program by writing both a Master’s thesis and a Ph.D research proposal.
Extra Curricular
Students are required to actively participate in the bi-weekly Ph.D-seminars by commenting on the papers by more advanced research master and Ph.D students in the first year and by presenting their own work in the second year. An academic skills development course runs alongside the academic courses and includes training in writing, publishing, and presenting skills. All students are appointed an academic advisor to discuss their plans and performance in the programme on a regular basis.
Time span
The programme takes two years in total and begins in September. The total study load is 120 ECTS credits (European Credit Transfer System). Upon request, parts of the programme may be waived for advanced applicants who have already completed (part of) an MA programme elsewhere.
