Organization Universities Games handed over to Rotterdam

End of successful first edition student games

The organization of the European Universities Games has been officially handed over to Rotterdam. That happened during the closing ceremony in Córdoba, where the first edition of the biggest European sporting event for students  took place. The Games have led to much enthusiasm for the second edition in 2014 in Rotterdam.

This week, the first European Universities Games in Córdoba ended. During the closing ceremony Daniel Sikkens, chairman of the ‘2nd European Universities Games 2014’ foundation, received the flag of the EUSA (European University Sports Association) as the next organizer of the student games.

Sikkens invited everyone to come to Rotterdam - as a participant or as a volunteer. Many athletes in Córdoba have indicated would like to participate. Already the first international volunteers have been recruited.

Enthusiasm
The organizing committee of the EU Games 2014 was in Córdoba to promote the event in Rotterdam and to gain experience. They visited the various locations and participated in meetings in preparation for the EU Games in Rotterdam. What was especially noticeable was the great enthusiasm of the participants. The organization of EU Games therefore looks forward to the second edition, from 4 to 13 July 2014 in Rotterdam.

Anniversary year
The EU Games in 2014 conclude the anniversary year of Erasmus University Rotterdam. During the academic year 2013-2014, the EUR celebrates its centenary. The university organizes the European Universities Games together with the municipality of Rotterdam, Rotterdam Topsport, Student Sports Netherlands and several other partners.
