About the Erasmus Centre for Entrepreneurship

The Erasmus University was founded in 1913, by the prominent entrepreneurs Jacob Ruys, Cornelis van Stolk and Willem Mees from Rotterdam with the ambition to improve education for entrepreneurs and business men. Now, a 100 years later this ambition is still very much alive. The Erasmus Centre for Entrepreneurship is the body of the Erasmus University, that focuses on entrepreneurship, maintaining the ambition that was found a 100 years ago.

Entrepreneurship is the driving force behind innovation, competition and economic growth. The Netherlands is positioned to develop into a leading knowledge-driven economy, which requires our workforce to adopt an entrepreneurial and creative approach. Dutch Universities face the challenge to prepare and stimulate students to use their knowledge and skills in an entrepreneurial and creative way.

The Erasmus University leads up front in the field of economics, management and entrepreneurship. Since its foundation, the Erasmus University is home to many successful entrepreneurs and by means of the Erasmus Centre for Entrepreneurship it still commits to entrepreneurship and business in the area of research, education and business support.

The Erasmus Centre for Entrepreneurship is an university-wide body and is open for everybody who wants to connect and commit. With over 20 researchers, connected to ECE, doing research on various aspects of entrepreneurship, knowledge is created at Erasmus University. This knowledge is re-distributed to its students and business through education and various programmes.

The Erasmus Centre for Entrepreneurship is continuously developing and improving new and existing entrepreneurial programmes. ECE has the power to facilitate and assist on existing programmes on the Erasmus University initiated by researchers or student-associations. Throughout these programmes ECE reaches over 6,000 students, researchers and alumni with inspiration, education and support on entrepreneurship. These activities inspired several nascent entrepreneurs to start and grow their businesses.
