Mission and vision
Mission
The University Library ensures the provision of scientific information and offers information services for Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR). The library does this with regard to the three domains in which the university has established its good name: Economics and management, Medicine and health care and Law, culture and society.
The library provides services to students, lecturers and researchers. In doing so, it operates at the heart of the scientific profession. With its collections and related expertise, the library also fulfills a social function, particularly in the region. The library stands for client orientation, innovation and efficiency. The central focus of its activities is on professionalism, teamwork and fair play.
Professional vision
Digitalisation of the provision of information and changes in scientific research (e-science) and education itself (e-learning) affect the task and working procedures of the library. At home and abroad, the library endeavours to earn its reputation pre-eminently through innovative, efficient organisation. In particular, in regard to collections and expertise, it strives to excel in medicine/health care, economics/management and related subjects.
The library needs to consolidate its current strengths: its collections, expert information specialists, good communication with the faculties and the results achieved in the field of ICT in education and in the field of electronic publishing.
Moreover, the service should acquire added value and continue to invest in up-to-date information technology and in the training of its own staff. Finally, the library is engaged in its own scientific research in the field of scientific information.
