Erasmus Studio

The Erasmus Studio is up and running from 2007 as a sub-centre of the new Virtual Knowledge Studio (VKS) for the Humanities and Social Sciences of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) in Amsterdam. In January 2011 part of the VKS has been transferred to the e-Humanities Group of the KNAW.
The Erasmus Studio was set up by the Erasmus School of Economics (principal partner) and the Faculty of Social Sciences. The University Library participates in a number of activities:

• The development of the Erasmus Studio website.
• The development of a semantic scholarly publishing model. The goal of this research project is to create an electronic publishing environment that is not static and linear, but dynamic and multidimensional and in which the cognitive and semantic relational patterns become visible. In this way, a publishing model arises in which cognitive structures become visible by means of the links between scientific concepts: ideas, hypotheses, proofs, argument, interpretation, commentary, etc.
• Research into the changes in work and thought patterns within a semantically-modelled virtual research and learning environment. The Erasmus Studio offers an interesting opportunity to study the way scientists use the Web. Insight into the manner in which researchers use the Web and library services may lead to the creation of new information services that are better tailored to current scientific practice.
  From December 2007 to June 2008, the University Library coordinated a SURFshare project to create a prototype of the Virtual Knowledge Studio Collaboratory, with Microsoft Sharepoint software. Click here for more information.
