Web of Science

Welcome to the Web of Science course provided by the University Library (UL) of Erasmus University Rotterdam.

This course teaches you to search recent literature on the basis of older publications on the subject of your literature study. This method is called 'cited reference search'.

After going through the Web of Science course, you will be able to

  • distinguish a citation database from a common bibliographic database;
  • search for literature by subject in Web of Science;
  • refine the search result of a search, analyse and save it;
  • search for actual information on the basis of older publications with the cited reference method;
  • search for book reviews;
  • export literature references to a reference manager (program with which you can import and manage literature references and then create a list of references);
  • set notification services and RSS feeds.

 This course is intended for students as well as researchers and teaching assistants. Web of Science offers plenty of features. In this course, we made a selection of the most relevant ones and decided not to deal with all functions. Please find an overview of manuals under 'Contact and Help'. When you start working with Web of Science, you will naturally come across all the features available. You can decide for yourself whether these are of interest to you. Going through the full course will take you about one hour.

In the menu to the left of this screen, you will find the table of contents for this course.
