On Tuesday 28 May 2024, A. Ragamin will defend the doctoral thesis titled: ‘Atopic Dermatitis: From monitoring to control‘.

Brief summary of the doctoral thesis:

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a complex, heterogeneous, common, chronic, relapsing, inflammatory skin disorder characterized by recurrent erythematous and squamous lesions and pruritus, which can cause high (psycho)somatic, social, and economic burden among affected individuals and their families. Unfortunately, no cure for AD is yet available and treatment therefore focuses on achieving disease control and better quality of life. Due to its heterogeneity, both the assessment of clinical signs and patient-reported symptoms can be challenging. Treatment of AD is focused on reducing inflammation, improving the epidermal barrier function, and avoiding triggers. Although most patients can be effectively treated with existing treatment options, many patients continue to suffer from AD due to suboptimal therapy. The main objective of this thesis was therefore, to delve into the challenges surrounding the management and monitoring of atopic dermatitis.
