Prof. Dr. F.M.G. de Jong (Franciska)
Franciska de Jong has a background in theoretical linguistics. She switched to the area of computational linguistics and human language technology in 1985, when she joined Philips Research to work on machine translation. At the Erasmus University Rotterdam she combines her work as chair of e-Research for the Social Sciences and the Humanities at ESHCC with her role of director of the Erasmus Studio. She also has a position as professor of e-Research for the Humanities at the University of Utrecht. As as of 1 September 2015 she is executive director of CLARIN ERIC. At the University of Twente in Enschede she has been professor of language technology since 1992 (for details see her UT homepage.) Her current research focus is on multimedia indexing, text mining, cross-language information retrieval and the disclosure of cultural heritage collections (in particular spoken word audio archives). She is active as a board member for several institutes and organisations, e.g., the Netherlands Royal Library (KB), Stichting Letteren en Samenleving Rotterdam and the Netherlands eScience Center.
