Happy New Year

恭喜发财! Happy Lunar New Year!

On February 3, 2011 the Year of the Rabbit was officially celebrated by Chinese, and Asian cultures in general, all around the world. For Chinese it’s a time to reflect back on the past year, while spending time with family and enjoying good seasonal cuisine.

Those who study abroad might not have the opportunity to go back to visit their relatives. Being so far from home can be unpleasant during the festival season.

In order to make the students feel at home, the EUCC organized and participated in a few events. For a number of selected CSC PhD students a lunch was organized. Ms. Weichia Tseng together with prof. Hans de Doelder, prof. Nico van der Windt and prof. Ton van der Pijl attended that lunch on 2 February, on the EUR campus. This gesture was highly appreciated by the students.

On February 3 there were different festivities being held in Rotterdam, and also other cities in the Netherlands, which included the traditional Lion Dances, live-performances of Wushu, a Dragon Parade, workshops for children and countless of typical stalls selling celebration articles. And of course restaurant-establishments served specially made dishes.

On February 4 the EUCC organized a separate lunch with CSC PhD students from the medical faculty at EUR Hoboken. The students were happy that something was organized for this occasion and enjoyed the afternoon among professors and peers. In the evening two EUCC colleagues participated in a grand dinner event organized by the ACSSNL. Chinese students from different cities in the Netherlands all were at this event in the city of Maarsen.

Ms. Tseng and the EUCC team wishes all a happy and prosperous new year!
