Managing the Urban Economy

(5 ECTS)

In this module the specific qualities needed for good urban management will be highlighted: knowledge of the urban system and the organizations and processes involved. Who, besides government departments, are the actors involved in shaping the urban landscape? The private sector, influential groups and the general public also help to improve (or worsen) the city. They all generate funds to make the city economically efficient. The impact of their actions (or lack of it) may affect other urban groups, the urban environment and the productive capacity of cities. Special attention will be paid to hot issues in today’s urban management such as the knowledge society, the inner-city economy and safety.
