What is the Eurekaweek?

Note: The Eurekaweek is an event initiated by the Erasmus University and no forms of initiation, hazing or ragging will take place during this week!

The Eurekaweek is the official introduction week of the Erasmus University Rotterdam. EUREKA is a Dutch acronym which translates into Erasmus University Rotterdam First-Year Orientation Activities. This year, the Eurekaweek will take place between the 17th and the 20th of August. The main purpose of this week is to get you familiarised with  Rotterdam's student life and to meet your fellow students. The key elements of this week is the University, your study, your fellow students, student-, study and sports associations and the city of Rotterdam.

During the Eurekaweek you'll be shown around town by two guides who are older students of your study at Erasmus University. At the opening of the Eurekaweek you will be assigned to a group of about 15 students from the same study. With these people and your guides, you will explore the student life. During the day, the programme concerns some of the more serious aspects, such as the University and a tour through Rotterdam and in the evenings, there are a ton of spectacular parties.

Your successful student time starts here!

For whom is the Eurekaweek organized?

The Eurekaweek is the official introduction week of the Erasmus University Rotterdam and is intended for all prospective students at EUR. It doesn't matter if you are starting a bachelor, a pre-master or a master program: if you are new to Rotterdam, we would like to introduce you to Rotterdam student life! Even if you have been living in Rotterdam for some time, it is certainly important to participate in the Eurekaweek. You will not only get to know the city, but also your new studies (enjoyed), student associations and sports associations. In addition, during the week you will receive a lot of information that may come in handy during your studies. When classifying the groups, we take into account your specialization and the study phase you are in.

Take part of the most unforgettable event of the Erasmus University!

The main reason to participate in the Eurekaweek is to get acquainted with all aspects of the university, your studies and student life. In addition, there are a number of important reasons why you should not miss this week:

Why participate in the Eurekaweek?

  • From our own experience we know that in the Eurekaweek friendships arise that will last throughout your studies (and beyond). In addition, it is always useful to get to know fellow students before being part of your (large) program lectures!

  • The university has a lot to offer you as a student. During the Eurekaweek you will get to know the campus and all its possibilities, but also the places where you will often come during your studies.

  • During the day and in the evening you will be guided extensively through Rotterdam. Even when you come from the Rotterdam area, we ensure that you see places that you do not know yet!

  • During the day there are plenty of activities for you and your group to participate in and with all the different program components there is something for everyone. In the evening we first organize our own parties and after the evening program there are different parties at the different student associations of Rotterdam, these are places where you are normally not allowed to get in.
