At the Erasmus University Rotterdam, research is led by the triple bottom line framework – where the traditional measures of value creation are allied to social and environmental dimensions. Research on sustainability is embedded in the numerous research centers present on campus; our researchers strive to push the limits of knowledge in their own spheres of expertise, whether business or economics, and to integrate the fundamental social and environmental aspects of the field. As a signal of forward thinking, we are also transiting toward the triple top line framework, where sustainable development is not only directed toward reducing the negative impacts of economic activities, but also toward creating positive externalities while doing so.
