Development of blended modules for the Qualitative Research Methods course

Qualitative Research Methods is a mandatory course for IBCOM – Year 2 students (approx. 200 students). The course is an introductory overview of qualitative research methodology, with the first part of the course concentrated on data collection and the last oriented towards developing data analysis skills. This innovation project addresses the second part of the course dealing with data analysis.

Goal

The goals of this project are: (1) Improve students’ knowledge of methods of analysis (including knowledge of particular tools), (2) improve analysis skills & confidence in the analysis process and (3), re-structure lecture to address common misconceptions and confusion over the process of qualitative interpretation.

Result

We will create a series of six blended modules, one per method of analysis that we have identified as key forms of qualitative data analysis in our program. When the project has been evaluated, the results will be published.
